Rear Under Run Bars
Side Protection Bars

Our second product is Side Protection Bars for trailers and certain commercial vehicles as per the regulations of the National Road Traffic Act.

A long vehicle often must take a much wider turn into a corner. This can confuse other road users who try to overtake but end up driving under the trailer as the truck turns.  It is particularly risky for cyclists who are knocked off their bikes in substantial numbers in urban areas, so much so that it is now mandatory to have this protection fitted to certain trucks and trailers.

The  NATIONAL ROAD TRAFFIC ACT 93 OF 1996  article 218 states the following:

218.   Rear underrun protection device Subject to such exemptions as may be provided for under any specification as referred to in  regulation 216, a rear underrun protection device which complies with the standard specification SABS 1055 “Rear underrun protection devices”, shall be fitted to—

(a)  a trailer the gross vehicle mass of which exceeds 3 500 kilograms, first registered on or after 1 January 1988;

(b)  any other goods vehicle the gross vehicle mass of which exceeds 12 000 kilograms, first registered on or after 1 January 1988, but after 1 January 2000, such rear underrun protection device shall be fitted to any trailer the gross vehicle mass of which exceeds 3 500 kilograms and any goods vehicle the gross vehicle mass of which exceeds 12 000 kilograms.
